Distribution at Tempe is based on purchasing and manufacturing. These departments make decisions on how much of a product to purchase as well as delivery dates. Based on these decisions systems are put into place to ensure shoe collections arrive on time to the different chains in the group. Currently around 50% of our merchandise is produced in the European Union (essentially Spain and Portugal).
This process differs from that of textiles in many ways: the volume and number of units in the store, the variety of articles and a greater degree of product delicacy. These details define the distribution centre's activity in specific ways. For example handling merchandise is more complicated. Despite these challenges, new technology and proper organisation help us to dispatch 20 million pairs of shoes from our Spanish centre alone each year.
Today there are three distribution platforms for the group's footwear:
Tempe Central: prepares and delivers orders to shops worldwide, not including the Southern Cone and Mexico.
Tempe Méjico: covers Mexico and Venezuela.
Tempe Brasil: covers Zara Brazil shops in Southern Cone countries (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil).
